For nearly 40 years, the Chandler Education Foundation (CEF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has supported the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) through scholarships, classroom grants, and emergency assistance for families in need. Among its key initiatives is the IMPACT Chandler Service Leadership Program, a unique opportunity for high school students to engage with their community while building leadership skills and academic excellence.
During the 2023-2024 academic year alone, IMPACT students completed nearly 40,000 hours of community service, contributing to vital causes, developing professional skills, and gaining a deeper understanding of our community’s needs.
For students who haven't yet joined this program, here are eight compelling reasons why they should:
1. Win a $1,000 Scholarship
Students who complete all program requirements by the end of Spring Break in their senior year can apply for the prestigious IMPACT Scholarship, funded through CEF’s annual Winner’s Choice Car or Cash Raffle Fundraiser.
2. Boost College Applications
IMPACT participants stand out in the competitive college application process. They can showcase their commitment to community service and articulate how balancing service and academics has prepared them for the challenges of higher education.
3. Make a Difference in the Community
Living in the Phoenix metropolitan area, the 5th largest in the U.S., offers countless ways to give back—from environmental efforts to humanitarian aid. IMPACT students become part of the solution, supporting the needs of our local community.
4. Earn Graduation Honors
Seniors who meet all program requirements receive IMPACT Honors, including a special cord to wear at graduation, a certificate, and a letter of recommendation from CEF’s Executive Director.
5. Gain Real-World Skills
Volunteering provides experiences beyond the classroom. Students who engage consistently with an organization often develop leadership skills, communication expertise, and the confidence to take on greater responsibilities.
6. Explore Career Paths
Not sure what’s next after high school? Volunteering with diverse organizations can offer valuable insights into potential career interests and help refine choices for college majors.
7. Build Lasting Friendships
Community service connects students with like-minded peers outside their usual circles. These shared experiences often lead to meaningful friendships and opportunities to socialize beyond school.
8. Inspire Lifelong Leadership
IMPACT graduates often carry forward the skills and values they develop through the program, becoming engaged citizens and leaders in their communities.
